ASCII Cover Girls: The Hot Approach with Rin Takanashi and The Cute Approach with Maaya Uchida!
Here's another round of hot vs. moe among Henshin hotties. While I wanted a Rin Takanashi vs. Erina Nakayama one but here we have Maaya Uchida instead. Here's my editorial of the two ASCII girls. Remember this is JUST MOSTLY OPINION so feel free to disagree with me though pointing out of errors is also welcome:
Let's analyze the cover photos first. Rin Takanashi's picture looks livelier and she is smiling. On the other hand, Maaya Uchida is in a non-smiling, moe mode, kitty stare mode which IMO Rin Takanashi won't look good doing it.
So let's start with Rin Takanashi. Her role as Mako Shiraishi was not meant to be a cute character at all. Mako was meant to be feminine type of character, the team mom, somebody who has an unusual obsession with broken people while being overly blunt and so far, she's seen to be the most fashionable member.
On the other hand, I view Maaya Uchida's character in Akibaranger as more or less as a cute character. Again, I really just can't salute her character of Hiroyo Hakase to the likes of other Sentai female mentors like Aya Odagiri considering Akibaranger is parody. For her character, I tend to view her as the adorable kitten type of character. Appearance-wise, Maaya Uchida is more centered on being kawaii than she is on being on the hot side. Also, I think she intends to create more puppy dog effects compared to Suzuka Morita (who is fit to play serious roles, her character Kotoha Hanaori has serious moments and she does it fine) and Rina Aizawa. For one, I really just find Maaya Uchida to be very high on the moe level, even when compared the "Reiko Chiba clone" Erina Nakayama.
